(StraightNews.org) – President Biden is under fire for yet another verbal gaffe after referring to veteran rapper LL Cool J as “boy.” Many black people consider this a slur that harks back to the days of slavery and white supremacy. The President appeared to realize his mistake and quickly corrected himself to replace “boy” with “man.”
Speaking at a Congressional Black Caucus event, he noted America’s achievers in the hip-hop musical genre and said LL Cool J and fellow rapper DJ MC Lyte were “two of the great artists of our time, representing the groundbreaking legacy of hip-hop in America.”
A video clip of the verbal slip went viral online with mixed reactions. Some people said it was racist, and the President knew it was racist, which is why he corrected himself, while others were more sympathetic. One Twitter commenter said, “Everyone forgive Grandpa, he’s from another time.”
While the President’s verbal slip-ups are well known, his history of racial remarks is less frequently documented. The conservative Heritage Foundation has lambasted the mainstream media for refusing to address Biden’s apparent history of racist comments, remarking that many reporters would undoubtedly refer to them if Donald Trump had spoken them.
For example, President Biden once told an audience of black voters that if they chose Donald Trump as their President, “they ain’t black.” To a group of black and Latino citizens, the President said, “Unlike the African American community, with notable exceptions, the Latino community is an incredibly diverse community.”
In 2007, he famously referred to President Obama as “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean.” In 2006, he said a person couldn’t go to a 7-Eleven unless they had an Indian accent, and back in 1977, he lamented his children growing up in a “racial jungle.”
The Heritage Foundation states, “It does not take much effort to imagine the media’s reaction if Donald Trump had mangled so many racial issues.”
