Majority Believe Media Is Easier on Biden Than Trump

( — The majority of American voters believe the mainstream media is easier on President Biden than it was on Donald Trump. A poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports found that 51% believe the media is less aggressive toward Biden and even more believe that bias in his favor is getting worse. The poll also showed that only 24% believe Biden is questioned more aggressively, while 21% think it’s about the same. When asked if media bias is increasing, 56% said it was while only 16% disagreed. The figures differ significantly along party lines. Among Republicans, 73% believe the situation is deteriorating, while only 38% of Democrats agree.

Donald Trump’s relationship with the media was the most fraught of any President in living memory. During his Presidency, he labeled the mainstream press the “enemy of the people” and frequently accused its reporters of bias and misrepresentation. He also coined the phrase “fake news” which would become a commonly used expression among his supporters. On his Twitter account in 2019, Trump said, “The press is doing everything within their power to fight the magnificence of the phrase, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! They can’t stand the fact that this Administration has done more than virtually any other Administration in its first 2yrs.”

In a separate poll conducted in 2021, 63% said the media is “protecting” President Biden and 59% said his staff was keeping him away from the spotlight. Biden gave credibility to the claim at an event in the UK that year when he said he would get into trouble if he answered questions put to him by reporters that had not been pre-approved. On another occasion in the White House, he stated “I’m not supposed to be answering all these questions.”

The President has a history of gaffes that have been parodied on the internet numerous times. On one notorious occasion, he said that Vladimir Putin cannot be allowed to remain in power, prompting a fast response from the White House claiming he had misspoken.
