(StraightNews.org) – A North Carolina pastor was arrested for allegedly trying to shove a cook into a deep fryer at a McDonald’s. Dwayne Waden allegedly flew into a rage when his wife, who was training for a management post at the fast food outlet, complained that staff treated her with disrespect. A subsequent police report described Mr. Waden attending the restaurant and appearing to try to shove a staff member’s head into a fryer.
Several staff members intervened to save the unnamed employee, but he did not come out of the incident unscathed. The staff member “suffered a large contusion to the forehead and right eye, along with scratches on his neck.” Police arrested Mr. Waden, who was later released on a $1,000 bond.
The manager of the McDonald’s outlet confirmed to CBS reporters that Mr. Waden’s wife was no longer employed there and said, “The safety and security of our employees and customers is our top priority.”
On his Facebook page, Waden describes himself as a pastor at the Elevated Life International Ministries. The Ministry’s Facebook account contains just one photograph and no posts.
Dwayne Waden joins a long list of American pastors accused of violent, unlawful, or hypocritical behavior, and some cases have made national headlines. For example, Ted Haggard, who preached against homosexuality, was caught using methamphetamine with a male prostitute in 2006. He promised to change his ways, but in 2022, he was discovered doing the same thing at a church he founded in Colorado Springs.
Jim Bakker was a famous TV evangelical preacher in the 1980s but was jailed for 45 years for accounting fraud after a separate sex abuse scandal broke.
Finally, Bill Gothard founded the Gothard Institute of Basic Life Principles and preached female modesty. In 2014, more than 30 women accused him of sexual assault and molestation, causing him to stand down and close his ministry. Several cases against him were dropped, some due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
