(StraightNews.org) — Independent Senator Krysten Sinema has fiercely criticized the White House and said it is denying reality about the situation on the southern border. She said Biden has known that Title 42 will expire for two years and has taken no action. Sinema said comments from Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who said the border is secure, are offensive to those who live in southern states because “anyone with eyes” can see that he is wrong.
She went on to state that in Arizona, 1,000 males cross every day, and the state does not have the resources to deal with such high numbers.
Oklahoma Senator James Lankford joined Sinema in her criticisms. He said cartels are giving scripts to border crossers and telling them what to say to qualify for an asylum hearing. He added that it takes about 18 years for asylum claims to be settled, and the migrants stay in the US during that time. The Senator also clarified that Title 42 has only “turned around” about 30% of those arriving.
Trump-era Title 42, which allows the expulsion of migrants on health grounds without hearing asylum claims, is due to expire in May.
The White House has announced that it intends to send 1,500 troops to the border as Title 42 expires. They will perform administrative tasks to free up Border Patrol agents to deal with the impending crisis. Sinema said this is better than nothing but still will not change much on the ground.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that illegal migration has dropped by 90% at a briefing on May 1st. She appeared unable to explain that figure but reiterated that President Biden intends to deal with the issue “in a humane way and a way that actually deals with what we’re seeing at the border.” Several media outlets reacted with incredulity and mocked her for her comments. Fox News accused her of living in a fantasy world.
