Sofia Vergara Announces Divorce from Joe Manganiello

(StraightNews.org) – Sofia Vergara has announced she will divorce her husband, Joe Manganiello, after seven years of marriage. Vergara, best known for her portrayal as Gloria on the comedy Modern Family, married Manganiello in a lavish Florida wedding in 2015 but says the two have grown apart due to their “different attitudes.”

Social media followers noted recently that Vergara and fellow actor and Spider-Man star Manganiello no longer appeared together on their popular Instagram pages. The actress posted a photo while enjoying a holiday in Italy and followers saw she was no longer wearing her wedding ring. Fans also speculated that the marriage was on the rocks when they placed their Beverly Hills mansion on the market in May.

Confirmation of the divorce came via a statement from the pair which read, “As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”

The divorce is the latest upheaval in Vergara’s life. Born in Colombia, she first studied to be a dentist but left university only months before completing her studies. She focused on a career in modeling and acting – which she had pursued alongside her dentistry training.

The 51-year-old appeared in several advertisements in her native country as a teenager, but her big break came when she hosted a popular Spanish-speaking show in the 1990s.

In 1998, her brother was murdered, prompting the star to emigrate to the United States, where she initially settled in Miami, Florida. Following a series of roles in independent films, she hit the big time when hired to play glamorous Gloria Pritchett in the smash hit comedy Modern Family.

Forbes named Vergara the highest-paid actress in television in 2016 and she has been nominated for several awards. She won the People’s Choice award for best comedy actress in 2017 and again in 2020. She has one son from a previous marriage.
