3 Men Convicted in Plot To Kidnap Michigan’s Governor

(StraightNews.org) – Few Americans would deny 2020 was a strange year, especially when the FBI revealed a plot by a group called the Wolverine Watchmen to kidnap Wisconsin Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D). However, long after authorities thwarted the plan, three men finally faced a state trial and were convicted of supporting terrorism.

On Wednesday, October 26, a jury found Joseph Morrison, Paul Bellar and Pete Musico guilty of providing “material support” to a terrorist act as members of the Wolverine Watchmen group. Evidence supporting this conviction included testimonies that the men participated in gun training and paramilitary exercises, all while holding intense contempt for the government.

The jury also convicted the trio of gun crimes and gang membership, citing their group was actually a criminal enterprise. These verdicts came as federal trials have produced mixed results with other men involved in the kidnapping plot.

The men’s defense team had argued that the trio was disconnected from the group before Adam Fox, previously convicted as the leader of the kidnapping scheme, solidified the plans to snatch Whitmer. They also criticized the FBI for using an undercover informant to supply information to the feds about the group. These men will be jailed as they await their December 15 sentencing court date.
