(StraightNews.org) – President Biden’s decision to reverse Trump-era policy on the Middle East was partly responsible for the recent attacks on Israel, according to a growing number of Republican lawmakers. During the Trump administration, the US government blocked funding and severed all ties with the Palestinian authorities – a decision overturned by Biden, who donated aid worth $235 million in 2021.
Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn said Hamas will undoubtedly have used this cash, and she condemned the President for allowing Iran to have access to $6 billion in exchange for releasing US prisoners in September. “President Trump cut US aid to Palestine. President Biden reversed this decision and sent hundreds of millions of dollars to Palestine,” Blackburn tweeted. The White House insists, however, that the $6 billion has not yet been spent.
Iran is the primary sponsor of both Hamas and its fellow terrorist group, Hezbollah. Both organizations have launched attacks on Israel in the past.
President Trump and fellow GOP Presidential candidates immediately blamed the Biden administration for its role in the atrocity, with Trump telling an Iowa audience, “American taxpayer dollars helped fund these attacks.” He said the assault on America’s closest ally would never have happened if he were in the White House.
Trump’s ex-Vice President Mike Pence echoed his remarks and said, “This is what happens when America’s president projects weakness on the world stage.” Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said Biden’s weakness has caused two major wars to erupt, one in Ukraine and another in Israel.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis furiously lashed out at the President on Twitter saying, “Iran has helped fund this war against Israel and Joe Biden’s policies that have gone easy on Iran have helped fill their coffers.”
Tim Scott, Nikki Haley, Asa Hutchinson, and Doug Burgum all likewise blamed the President for “weak leadership.” Burgum called on the White House to step up and “provide maximum support to our democratic ally.”
