(StraightNews.org) – Rapper Snoop Dogg has said he has nothing but love and admiration for Donald Trump. The surprising comments came after several years of antagonism between him and the former President, which started in 2017 when he produced a video featuring a clown resembling Trump. The video furthermore showed a gun aimed at the clown with a red flag emblazoned with the word BANG when the trigger was pulled.
In an interview with the British newspaper The Times, Snoop said Trump had done nothing to harm him and cited the former President’s pardon of his friend Michael Harris, who was imprisoned for drug offenses. Just before the end of his Presidency, Trump issued pardons to several prisoners, including Harris, who had spent 32 years behind bars. The pardon came after Snoop Dogg lobbied Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, and asked them to persuade Mr. Trump to release Harris.
White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows reportedly advised President Trump against the pardon, but his family persuaded him to proceed. Harris founded Death Row Records, the label that signed Snoop Dogg and other famous rappers, including Dr Dre and Tupac Shakur.
Following the interview revealing Snoop’s change of heart about Donald Trump, a debate started online. Some people accused the rapper of “shilling” for “any product imaginable as long as it keeps him in the media spotlight.” One Twitter user wrote that Snoop was “probably paid” to repeat anti-Trump rhetoric until the “faucet was turned off,” while others called him a “sell-out.”
Some, however, praised Snoop Dogg for his change of heart and said that even though he smokes a lot of cannabis, his mind is still clear. “All Americans, including celebrities, need to support Trump if we’re going to save this country,” one person tweeted.
Among the celebrities who openly support former President Trump are Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood, musician Kid Rock, comedian Roseanne Barr, TV presenter Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and actresses Kirstie Alley and Angie Harmon.
