(StraightNews.org) – Two people died and two were injured during a shootout in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The incident happened on February 25, and police say they believe it was connected to a domestic dispute. A 21-year-old woman died at the scene, and a 28-year-old man died later in hospital. The two injured parties were hospitalized and are expected to recover fully. Milwaukee police stated that other people may have participated in the shootout, but investigations were ongoing.
The dead woman was later identified as Brianna Sanders and the 28-year-old male was Sam Hunt, and reports confirmed that they were related. Brianna Sanders’ mother told reporters that her daughter was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and she was there only to aid her cousin Sam. She explained that the incident occurred outside the home of the home of Mr. Hunt’s children’s mother and that the couple had separated and were not on good terms.
Witnesses described a group of people having a quarrel near the house for a prolonged period on Sunday afternoon, February 25. After around an hour of arguing, the shooting started, a witness said.
The shootings were among several in Milwaukee in February. On the first weekend of the month, seven separate gunfire incidents left eight people injured. A 16-year-old was hospitalized on Saturday, February 3, and a second 16-year-old was shot around five minutes later in a different part of the city.
The following day, a 34-year-old and 18-year-old were both taken to hospital with gunshot wounds, and four more people fell victim to injury the same day. Police did not detain any suspects for the shootings that weekend.
Last year, Milwaukee was named one of the most dangerous cities in the United States and ranked in third place for murder, aggravated assault, and robbery. Between 2011 and 2021, the homicide rate in the city rose by 50%. The same review named Memphis the “deadliest large city in the nation.”
