(StraightNews.org) – Teigan Martin, a 20-year old former tight end football player for the University of South Florida (USF), passed away after a one-car accident on June 24.
First responders came upon a 2013 BMW that slid into the ditch. Martin was identified and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The car moved across a lane of traffic and went into the ditch on the other side of the road.
Authorities are still investigating and say they think he was driving at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash. They are unsure if alcohol or drugs were involved. Martin was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the fatal crash. Martin had not been on the football team this year, but he was focusing on studying and completing his classes. He did not start any games in the year he played for USF The USF team posted on X that they are saddened by the news of Martin’s death. The team issued thoughts and prayers to Martin’s loved ones in this difficult time.
If an autopsy is performed, it will be completed by the Midwest Medical Examiners’ Office, but no details have been provided. Martin played football at Mayer Lutheran High School in Minnesota. In his final high school season in 2021, Martin received all-state honors and helped his team win a state title that year. In 2022, Martin was part of the Liberty University team, but he didn’t play at all during the season. The following year, he went to play for USF before leaving the football team for the current year.
