(StraightNews.org) – A Los Angeles man has been jailed for 340 years for sexually abusing family members. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Eleanor J. Hunter said Eduardo Perez Hernandez was a “habitual sexual offender” who “deserved every day” of his hefty sentence. The Judge told the 47-year-old that he had selected his most vulnerable family members to abuse before sending him to a state prison for the rest of his life.
A jury found Perez Hernandez guilty of forcible rape, two counts of intercourse with a minor under ten years old, three counts of unlawful sexual contact with a minor, seven counts of a lewd act on a child under 14, and one count of lewd act on a child 14 or 15 years old.
Deputy District Attorney Ariel Anson explained that one of the abuser’s victims, a teenage girl, told a doctor she had been raped in 2015, but no arrests were made at that time. Another victim reported the abuse to a teacher in 2023, leading to his arrest and several charges. Records show he has remained in prison since that time.
Hernandez Perez had a previous conviction in 2001 for attempted robbery, prompting the Judge to hand down the lengthy sentence. However, the jail term is dwarfed by some of America’s longest, which range from 99 to 30,000 years.
In 1994, Charles Scott Robinson of Oklahoma received the longest-ever jail term in America – 5,000 years each for six counts of child sexual abuse. In second place is Allan Wayne McLaurin, who was jailed for 21,250 years for various offenses, including the rape of an elderly woman, robbery, and kidnapping. Dudley Wayne Kyzer was jailed for 10,000 years in 1981 for murdering his wife.
Legal experts say such lengthy sentences are usually applied to emphasize the seriousness of certain crimes and are legally facilitated by using consecutive sentencing. This allows Judges to impose a jail term for individual crimes and add these together to reach often astronomical figures.
