(StraightNews.org) – Donald Trump has spoken to the family of the man who died at the Pennsylvania rally where a shooter opened fire and attempted to assassinate him. Mr. Trump called Corey Comperatore’s wife and daughters to express his condolences after the 50-year-old former firefighter was killed by 20-year-old Pennsylvania shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks, who climbed onto a roof near the rally and opened fire. A further two people were injured in the incident.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro also spoke to Comperatore’s family and confirmed his identity at a subsequent press conference. Shapiro told reporters that the firefighter’s wife asked that her husband be remembered as a hero and explained that he dove on top of his daughters to shield them from the flying bullets.
Mrs. Comperatore confirmed that she had refused a phone call from President Biden, saying her husband was an avowed Republican who would not have wanted her to speak to him. She added, however, that she holds no ill feelings toward the President, though she had already opted to vote for Donald Trump in November.
Those injured in the Pennsylvania shooting have been identified as David Dutch from New Kensington, and James Copenhaver from Moon Township, Pennsylvania. Dutch’s sister, Jennifer Veri-Grazier, told reporters that her brother had suffered liver damage and broken ribs and would be required to undergo numerous surgeries and a lengthy hospital stay.
James Copenhaver suffered “life-altering injuries,” according to the 74-year-old’s family, but they did not reveal further details. Mr. Copenhaver is a registered Democrat who friends say had recently expressed a desire to re-examine his political views and had become actively involved in local politics. He is recovering at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Thomas Matthew Crooks was shot dead by security agents after he climbed on a roof and aimed his rifle at Donald Trump, striking his ear. Several subsequent shots rang out while Secret Service agents shielded the former President and safely removed him from the scene.
