DNC Chief Accused Of ‘Lying’ About Biden Nomination

(StraightNews.org) – Journalist Nate Silver has accused the Democratic National Committee (DNC) of lying about its intentions to hold an online roll call to nominate President Biden as the party’s Presidential candidate. Mr. Silver, who founded the analysis website FiveThirtyEight, exchanged tweets with DNC chair Jaime Harrison, who claimed that Ohio Republicans had forced the Democrats to expedite Biden’s formal nomination by imposing a deadline that requires the process to be completed at least 90 days before the November 5 election.

Therefore, the deadline is August 7, and Harrison claimed that Biden’s formal nomination cannot wait until the Democratic convention in Chicago—which takes place twelve days later. While Ohio’s GOP-led legislature has introduced new laws pushing the deadline back to August 31, Harrison claims these do not take effect until September, and therefore, the August 7 deadline remains.

Mr. Silver wrote on social media that Mr. Harrison is “blatantly lying about this” and warned of “consequences” if Democrats push Biden’s nomination through prematurely and he goes on to lose the Presidential election. “The DNC should correct the record and proceed with its original plan, which is to let delegates vote at the party convention,” Silver wrote.

Earlier this month, Mr. Silver joined calls for President Biden to step down in favor of another candidate. After listening to the President’s first media interview in the wake of his poorly received performance against Donald Trump in Atlanta, Silver described the President as “incoherent” and shared an online statistic showing that 57% of voters now believe Biden will not be the Democratic candidate in November.

Reports indicate that President Biden has demonstrated some acceptance that he may not be able to see the race through to the end. He told reporters that he would withdraw if it became medically necessary or if he was diagnosed with an illness. Since then, the White House has confirmed that the President has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and is recovering at his Delaware home.
