(StraightNews.org) – An illegal immigrant who was deported from the US several times has been captured and charged with killing a 10-year-old boy in a Texas hit-and-run. The Midland Police Department arrested 50-year-old Rogelio Ortiz for allegedly hitting the boy with a truck on February 8 and fleeing the scene. Alex Wise was airlifted to hospital but died the next day. The incident happened in the town of Midland, around 300 miles from San Antonio.
Subsequent media reports state that Ortiz was deported from the United States on five separate occasions. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency states that he was first deported voluntarily but repeatedly returned through the open Texas-Mexico border.
Texan Rep. Troy Nehls responded furiously to news of the young boy’s death and blamed it on the Biden administration. “How many more Americans have to die before Joe Biden secures the border?” Nehls tweeted.
People soon posted warm tributes to Alex on social media, including his aunt, who called him the “sweetest, coolest, funniest little boy you ever would meet.” A young friend wrote that his pal always tried to make people laugh, and “we will all really miss him.” Friends and family arranged a memorial and balloon release on the basketball court at Alex’s school, and a GoFundMe campaign raised more than $20,000 in the first few days.
The conservative Heritage Foundation produced a report last summer about serious crimes committed by illegal immigrants in the US. The report states that this is exacerbated by the simultaneous soft-on-crime policies of various District Attorneys nationwide.
According to the Foundation, more than 6 million people entered America illegally since Biden took office, and Border Patrol agents report that thousands of these had previous convictions for serious crimes, including assault, rape, and murder. Furthermore, many criminals are deported repeatedly before going on to commit offenses.
Authorities deported Francisco Oropeza, for example, fourteen times before he gunned down five people in Texas last year.
