Authorities Seize 90K Fentanyl Pills in Las Vegas

(StraightNews.org) – Law enforcement officers in Las Vegas have seized 90,000 Fentanyl pills and arrested two men on charges of distribution. Police say a young child was at the scene when one of the suspects allegedly sold Fentanyl and other drugs from a vehicle with the child inside. Officers also confiscated thirteen pounds of methamphetamine.

Jorge Rodriguez-Medina and Jose Sanchez-Lobo now face federal charges, including conspiracy to distribute Fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute Fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Police made the arrests during an undercover sting that resulted from a tip-off. An unknown source told Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) officials that a Mexican man was dealing Fentanyl in the area, so police sent an undercover agent to arrange to purchase 90,000 pills.

Court documents say that Rodriguez-Medina arrived to facilitate the sale and told the undercover officer he was there “to count the money.” When the cash changed hands, Sanchez-Lobo allegedly arrived to deliver the drugs – and was accompanied by a woman and child. Sanchez-Lobo allegedly directed the officer to the bag of pills in the back seat. After locating the narcotics, officers made their arrests.

The successful sting took place just weeks after Arizona officials found 500 pounds of Fentanyl on a bus crossing the southern border into the Grand Canyon State. US Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents noted “anomalies’” in the wheels of the bus and found 92 packages of Fentanyl and just over $11,000 in cash.

Fentanyl kills thousands of Americans every year, and experts say that number is growing and will continue to do so unless action is taken. The Biden administration says stopping Fentanyl is a top priority, and President Biden has spoken to his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, about cooperation on narcotics trafficking. Fentanyl is produced by cartels in South America using chemicals from China. Drug experts say it is around 50 times more potent than heroin, and a single grain can be enough to kill a human being.
